A REBEGINNING

...numero uno...

I made my own word up I think. A ReBeginning.
(not overly creative though)

I think that before this blog was, well...crap. If you look back, I am obviously quite passionate about fashion design, about detailing, colour and aesthetic. But constantly regurgitating pictures from runways of designers I like, is both time consuming and monotonous. My passion for what I study, work and live is not properly nor easily displayed in this manner.

So, I am going to use my current, every day life as my source of inspiration for this blog now.
Two reasons for this. Firstly, I am in what is hopefully my final year of a fashion design degree at a design school that is a fairly prestigious. Second. I am a story teller. Its one of my favourite things to do, along side drawing, drinking gin and wine with friends, eating cheese, designing, eating chocolate, telling my family ridiculous facts i have read and going out for dinner with the fella.

Constantly I am inspired to elaborate, exaggerate and express the every day happenings of my life. Maybe it is because I find such pleasure and amusement in small things in life, (as well as the big intentionally overt, obvious things.) I really don't want to be one of 'those' bloggers who post pictures of their outings that all basically say 'oh yeah, thats right I am way cool and no, you will never be as cool as me/dont you want to be me and live my life' I just want to say, 'check this out, i learnt something today, that ...blew-my-mind...' And at times this might be posts from runways, and reposting from other blogs, but only because it 'blew my mind'...I wont use that phrase again. I sound like there aren't many brain cells left. (Admittedly I have had a wine or two while writing this, drawing, eating cheese and chocolate icecream, which my boyfriend brought to me whilst I was messaging my best friend, so they might rapidly be disappearing)

Anyway, I should also add, that I will use this as a means to present my final folio at the end of the semester. In all honestly, that is really the underling motivation for re establishing this blog. However I do think if last semester is anything to go by, most things I post (providing it's not a mindless waffle rant)   should be beneficial, especially to students who are interested in studying in my field, or are studying and struggle to find inspiration, motivation or humour in the stress of our courses.

I like to think there is always a silver lining. So if I fail everything, maybe this blog can be that silver lining, because someone might see it and work out everything not to do.

I'll post next about my Major project. What my inspiration is, and how I am thinking I should tackle it.

For now, here is a favourite picture of the moment, and one I am relying on largely as a source of inspiration. I do believe you could base a whole collection on one picture. It just depends on how deep you want to go into it. See what you get out of this. See if you can guess what my theme is going to be... Also I recommend looking up other pictures from this photographer.

New York Fashion Week: trends: Tartan and checks.

New York Fashion Week: trends: Minimalist...ish

So I kind of thought I was completely over the whole minimal thing. A lot of people did a poor job of it maybe? I dont know. Some of these pictures border on minimal, but they make it more interesting for me to look at, and to wear.

Here you go!
BCBG Max Azria
The culottes. Sleek, however there is movement that is enticing.

Charlotte Ronson

Calvin Klein

Costello Tagliapietra

Doo.Ri

G-Star Raw
This fabric and belt are beautiful.

Halston

J. Mendel

Michael Kors
True minimalism!

Ralph Lauren

The Row

Victoria Beckham
Such a simple collection, and so striking.

New York Fashion Week: trends: Jackets

So I guess jackets are always around, but I think this season it seems that they are statement pieces, and frankly, I love it!!
Living in Melbourne, we are going into Autumn, (even though summer some how eluded us-wettest summer on record..!) and really we should be the Coat kingdom of the world. It is cold enough to wear them, and warm enough that it doesn't need to be made for the snow, therefore more style and flare can be played with! I will do another version of this in a street style piece. Just on these jackets though, it kind of reinforces (for me) how easy it could be for Melbourne (or Australia) to be ahead of the game. They show the fall collections as we are going in to Autumn. I know we can't get all these pieces straight away (or at all) but variations of them aren't hard to find or make.

So here you go..!

3.1 Phillip Lim
The length

Anna Sui
Embroidery

Carolina Herrera
Classic and elegant.

G-star raw
The Length, silhouette, featured pockets and the different coloured princess line.

The colour, the trims, the length.

Oscar De La Renta
The colours and the fabrics, I LOVE IT!!

Ralph Lauren
Any one who'd wear this style, would mesmerise. It wouldn't matter how tired, sick or terrible you were looking, you'd put on this jacket and you'd instantly look amaaaazing!

The colour, the embroidery, and the two jackets together!!

The texture and fabric...grrrr!

The collar and the colour. (and the length and the cuffs)

Theysken's theory
The length and the fact that it's a long cardigan.

Thom Browne
The 'tails' and the lining.

Y-3
The tartan, and length.

Yigal Azrouel
The long cardi with a different coloured hood. I love it!

Zero + Maria
The length and the neck.

New York Fashion Week: trends: Geometry

I wonder if its the fact that the pattern Magic books have gone 'gang busters' this past year, especially since releasing the English versions, that every second designer had prints or panels in squares, triangles and circles-some in 3D! Although Pattern Magic are pattern making books, maybe some designers are trying to get us ready for 3D formations on our clothes?!?! That could be fun.

Anyway here are some examples...
